More than 1 million people have been devoured by the mines of Potosi. During the colonial era, the mine-worker lifetime was 6 months. Today most workers normally die within 10-15 years after entering the mines. People say that a visit to Bolivia is not complete without a visit to the mines of Cerro Rico. Seeing the working conditions in these mines is an experience that will leave you stunned.
Description
We pick you up in the morning and first, we’ll go to a market where you can buy presents for the miners if you want (recommended). Then we will go to the mines to visit a mining cooperative. You will get safety equipment; helmet, boots, jacket, pants and flashlight. We enter the mines and then we will be back in Potosi at noon approximately.
Mine visits aren’t easy; low ceilings, small muddy passageways, noxious chemicals and temperatures of up to 45°C makes this adventure inappropriate for persons with any doubts or medical problems.
