Huayna Potosi is well known for being one of the most beautiful and most accessible mountains in Bolivia. It’s 6088 meters high (19.973 ft.) Huayna Potosi is one of the easiest 6000 meter – climbs in the world. It is not technically difficult and it’s recommended for beginners.
Description
Day 1: We pick you up from your hotel at 9.00 in the morning. Then there’s a 2,5 hour drive to base camp, 4800 m.a.s.l. (15.748 ft. a.s.l.) Here we will have lunch and then you will try out the equipment and train in a glacier for 3 or 4 hours. We spend the night in a cabin.
Day 2: After breakfast at about 8.30 we will leave the base camp and go to the high camp, 5300 m. (17.060 ft. above sea level), about 3 hours walking. Here we will have lunch and, in the afternoon, we will rest and acclimatize to the altitude.
Day 3: At about 1 AM we’ll leave high camp and climb up to the summit. It will take between 4 and 6 hours to get there. We will be at the top (6088 m.a.s.l.) at sun rise and we will stay there for a while and enjoy the views. After that we will return to the high camp to have breakfast and rest for about 2 hours. Then we will return to the base camp and then back to La Paz. We will be back in La Paz around 3 p.m.
Note: If you are experienced it is possible to do the climb in 2 days, you will then go straight to the high camp the first day and on the second day go to the summit.
You should be acclimatized to the altitude of La Paz before doing this climb.
Our guides are highly experienced and have been climbing in Bolivian mountains for years.
